Almost a full house. Commissioner Graves explaining that a public hearing has already been held. He is explaining that they are only looking at allowing the conditional use for fv-3 zone. They are not considering a particular piece of property.

Commissioner Siegel asking questions regarding if facility is an open or lock down facility. Ben is obviously pushing for approval. Other commissioners chiming in.

We had to sneak out of the meeting early, but we will update the results of the meeting in a new post.

In the end, the members of the commission have determined that this type of facility DOES belong in our valley somewhere. But they are not convinced that the FV-3 Zone is the correct place.

There were several comments opposing "Residential Treatment" facilities (beyond the legally-protected 8-person idea). There were comments questioning the specific business plan of the Green Valley Academy (beyond the simple fact that they want to be in FV-3). There were comments questioning the long-term status of the facility and the potential that it would be sold to a national entity and/or be expanded to many times its original size.

Those comments seem to have fallen on deaf ears. Again, the commission thinks that we SHOULD have such a facility in our valley.

Don't be surprised that this will sail right through with the Weber County Commission no matter what the OVPC members say. They (Weber County Commissioners) have already demonstrated their complete disdain of the wishes of most Ogden Valley residents.

Since they don't live up in the Valley, they don't really care what happens there, save the taxes they can get out of residents and developers.

Get ready for the big shaft on this issue.

I agree, based on what we have seen in the past. However, we must have a positive attitude, keep fighting the fight and do what we know is right. Do not give up because you think they will make a decision that is not in the best interest of Valley citizens. It is worth your time, your dedication and your support.

If you give up, you are giving in. Just a thought.

Perhaps "Othello" is genuinely trying to be pragmatic or perhaps he-or-she is actually trying to discourage those who would otherwise exercise some influence. Meetings like the one which happened this Tuesday are, I suspect, usually poorly attended. When a big group shows up and a lot of them have something to say, the committee members will obviously be a little more alert to the issues at play.

Think about it. The "staff" of the planning commission had already been working with the Green Valley folks for "months" to craft something which many expected to sail on through this week. The efforts of a lot of "regular folks" did make a difference this week. This might have had rubber stamp approval if not for the sincere efforts of your neighbors.

The "staff" will continue to attempt to fit this square peg into a round hole. And the neighbors will continue to speak about it.
