County Commission Candidate Drew Johnson Speaks Out

Drew and State Representative Candidate Alan Wheelwright to host a "meet and greet" Monday - Don't miss the free pizza!

By Drew Johnson

We are coming down the home stretch in the election and I just want to reiterate my pledge to you.

I am here for you. I will be accessible and responsive to your needs.
I am nonpartisan and do not have agendas other than serving you, my employers.

Several things that I have talked about during my campaign that I think are important to focus on as Commissioner.

The first is balancing out property taxes. That will immediately save all of us money.
This will be achieved through creating ordinances which require property owners to be paid up to date on their property taxes in order to go through planning and zoning.
There are over 14 million dollars in Weber County alone in uncollected property taxes, which are owed by large corporations.

Another focus I will have is better communication and process at the County.
I want to see the County departments work together and work more efficiently. The departments and the commission need to act in the best interest of the people they serve. I will bring a teamwork approach to the County.

I also believe it's important to protect Weber County's watershed. This is one our greatest resources. It should be a priority to protect it for our long-term sustainability and health and also to save us money. According to the most recent Nature Conservancy Research, it is a proven fact that if you protect the sources of the water, you will save money spent on treatment facilities, which cost far more in the long run.

This Monday November 1st from 5-7 pm, Alan Wheelwright and I will be giving a "meet & greet" at the Alpine Pizza in Eden. We will be serving free pizza and talking with people. Everyone is welcome and feel free to invite a friend who may not have had a chance to talk with either of us yet.

Again, I look forward to serving you.

Please vote for me. Together we can all make a difference.

Drew Johnson

Third parties don't win. The only way to ensure Zog loses is to vote for T.R. Morgan. Don't waste your vote!

actually drew does have the support to defeat zog.
VOTE DREW!!

I think many of us want to support Drew but are concerned that he may not have the support in the lower valley whereas Morgan has the support of at least the Democratic party. We are worried that a vote for an independent will be throwing the vote away, much like a vote for Ross Perot for President was a wasted vote many years ago.

Drew, please give us some hard facts of your claim for the needed support to reassure us that our vote is not wasted. Who is supporting you - which groups, etc.

We want to defeat Zoggie at all costs but don't want the votes split. Help us out.

Confused is right. A vote for Perot was wasted. Not in the sense that the voters didn't show their annoyance and disdain for the process and the candidates, but because it split the vote in an unfavored way. Morgan has the support of Democrats, and many republicans ticked off at Zog. Morgan will support the valley and listen to all county residents, but needs all the votes he can get to ensure a Zog defeat.

A heavy turn out in the Ogden Valley could out gun a poor one in the lower valley I would suspect....

There are approx. 145,000 registered voters in weber county. About 10,000 in Ogden Valley. The OV votes won't bring drew a victory, but can make a big difference for Morgan against Zoggie.

NC said...

that may be true, but what are the turn out rates for each?....

It's gut wrenching either way with the thought of that woman back in office....

Valley resident Lewis Johnson got out gunned about two to one in 2008 as I recall by Dearden. 35000 to 17000 as I recall. Dearden is no Zoggie but it will be hard for any candidate to beat an incumbent republican. Anyone have the actual numbers from 2008?

i have been out campaigning for 8 months. TR has shown up to one campaign event that i know of. the buzz i've heard about my campaign and the broad support i'm getting is across all types of people, republican and democrat. i am convinced i have a larger base.

Good news Drew! Good luck tomorrow.

I know this...TR's signs are very difficult to read ....I am in Ogden every day and see more of Drew PR than TR PR.

Pulling and voting for you Drew.

Nicely Done said...

TR's PR is not very noticable in compairison. You can't even read what he's running for.

Got my vote Drew. Get out of the bog no vote for zog...

vote for drew keeps zog in

I have also been campaigning since the beginning. I have been to various campaign events, as well as parades, weber county fair, roy days, etc. I would rather not argue about whose base is larger. The final votes will clearly show. My hope is that votes are not split and that Ms. Zogmaister does not get in again. I would ask all reading to help me defeat the incumbent. It is the only way to rid the county of her.

there is an upsurge of support and excitement for drew from people in the ogden area too. see you at the polls!
GO DREW!

It is very difficult to defeat the "culture" in Northern Utah. Never the less, it is incumbent upon all of us voters to vote for our choice. It the combination of Drew and T.R. votes exceed Zogmaister, the message will be loud and clear.

Sorry Drew. I changed my mind when I put the card in the machine and the first Tab I saw was to vote a straight ticket Republican. I thought about how many people would select that tab out of convenience and vote to re-elect Jan. It really is difficult for an unaffiliated candidate to win in Utah, especially with so many people brought up to just vote Republican. Voting for Morgan made the most sense.

I am having a hard time with how disappointed i am after reading that.

i hate even losing one vote

It saddens me that this country has came to the point of "being afraid" to vote for a Independent candidate.. After we have watched Democrats and Republicans DESTROY this country as a WHOLE, how can we sit back and NOT say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.. I believe an Independent candidate is JUST WHAT WE NEED to balance out this country and stop the lobbyist and their agendas.. The little guys are the ones we NEED in those seats, it starts in the SMALL communities.. I'm sorry to say this but i feel like people who are "afraid" to vote for an Independent candidate are the ones who are a helping hand to our Government taking this country down piece by piece.. WAKE UP AMERICA.. WE DO HAVE A CHANCE TO SAVE THIS NATION AND IT STARTS FROM THE SMALL SEATS AND THE LITTLE TOWN VOTERS...

I voted for DREW AND I AM PROUD TO SAY I AM NOW AN INDEPENDENT LOOKING FOR TRUE CHANGE IN THIS COUNTRY I SO DEARLY LOVE...

Tara

Thanks Drew said...

Drew, you gave it a helluva fight. Thanks for your willingness to serve the voters. We are in for four more years of ----?

still supporting Drew... said...

Drew, thank you for your love and concern for Ogden Valley and thanks for the good fight. You must be disappointed as we all are. I am personally even more sickend by the voters choice for Zog. That "straight" Republican ballot is a problem in this State we live in. When you have 6 kids with Mom or Dad, waiting in a 2 hour line to vote, the reality is most won't take the time to know each candidate and what they stand for. Many Utah voters aren't taught to think for themselves, only what their affiliation says they "should" do. Tarasbeamer comment above says it all. This doesn't mean we don't have a voice because she's still around. It's up to us to DEMAND she pays attention to O.V. Thanks Drew!

Thank you to all Ogden Valley supporters.

Drew, you did not lose for lack of hard work and good campaigning. You gave it everything you could and many of us are proud of your effort.

It is pretty difficult to beat the mormon theocracy in Utah. Some day these people will wake up, it may be too late.

Nick Bliss said...

To blindly vote for any party just because that's how it's been done in the past, "straight republican ballot", is a sure fire way to NEVER make progress. When will the people of Utah learn to elect the people who back their views and opinions best, and not just the easy vote. Are you one of the sheep? WAKE UP already!
