Faux rock wall in Ogden Canyon
"Driving Along" asked an important question that we will throw out to our humble readers:
Whats up with that simulated rock wall going up about a mile up the canyon?....can you say...UGLY?
What say ye Ogden Valley?

It looks like the same thing that surrounds the home near the water treatment plant. I could be a sound wall but wait until one of those truckers loses it and hits the wall.
Does anyone know if that property is state owned? It used to be a popular river access point and parking spot, but in more recent years it has been blocked by large rocks.
Is that the parcel of land that no one was allowed to develop until Ken Bischoff's son bought it a few years ago? All of a sudden it was okay to develop! What a surprise.
The aesthetics of the canyon took a permanent nosedive when some genius(es?) decided to abandon the hand-laid-up stone walls along the river side of the road for those ever-so-stylish precast concrete barriers. So these obnoxious faux stone walls are just icing on the Ugly Cake.
Its owned by the Perry/Ogden Canyon Trust....accross the river and up the hillside is property that is owned by Calvin Perry....with a sliver of Utah Power and Light Co. between the two that looks like the actual river location. Guess the guy can do what he wants with his property, but the interesting thing is that the western tip of it is owned by Weber County just before the road banks to the right at the bend....there are posts in the ground to support the wall down there...not sure if they are on the county property, but they sure look close...hope they surveyed the layout of that wall.
Oh and that lovely cell tower is a added bonus to the beauty of the canyon....just what we need...more people on thier phones while driving in the canyon....
Re the wall, it is ugly! I was under the impression that they were trying to expand the parking area so as to keep folks from pariking on the canyon road.
Would the wall have anything to do with the recent state law regarding access to public waters? Specifically, the ability for land owners to block access to public waters.
It has been a long time since the legislative session and I don't remember the details of the bill.
I dont think the wall has anything to do with the access to public waters or maintaining a safe parking situation...they can simply post no trespassing to keep people off the land legally. The previous access to water legistaltion allowed you to get into it from a public right away and stay in it...it did not allow you to trespass across private property to get into the water...that has changed now and techincally has rendered most of the Ogden River off limits unless you have a cumbersome written permission slip from the landowner which I believe has to be for each time you do so . Our fine Rep., Mr. Froerer voted to take the public access away...no wonder since his place is on the South Fork.
On the cell tower, I wonder if they are going to make it one of those kind that looks like a pine tree...they are somewhat hokie but it might actually work there as there are some surrounding of that scale...the worst one I have seen in on the Madison River near West Fork...looks really out of place.
Rot Row...whilst driving up Ogden Canyon me saw a surveyor out checking ye wall out with thy GPS..might ye wall be in the wrong place?....Also rumor has it that ye wall was red tagged by ye Weber County Building department at one time.....
