Thanks to our faithful reader Smatguy for the tip

Today Weber County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested and booked three suspects regarding the August 21, 2011 Pine View death of Esther Fujimoto.
And from the Standard Examiner:

Fujimoto died after being struck by a boat while swimming in the reservoir.

  1. reckless endangerment?....unlike swimming in a well known boating and ski area with no means of visual identification?

  2. What is reprehensible is that after they knowingly hit this person in the water, they left the scene and did not report the accident. The subsequent police investigation revealed who was involved. How is that any different than leaving the scene of any type of accident, long before blame or guilt is established?

  5. Agreed....I'm not disputing that....its a tragedy all around...should not have happened in the first place.  But for the grace of God, many others including myself could have run her over....many a time spotted her and her sister right there in the middle of the channel including right off Middle Fork beach in the near dark and AFTER dark. Hopefully some good can come from this whole thing about water saftey at Pineview.

  6. One more thing...how long is it going to be before someone plows into the early morning swimmers off Windsurfer Beach across the channel leading to the narrows?....they are not even on the other side of the bouy's, which still is not a open swim area.

  7. One of the first things that should be done is establish a speed limit for water craft  on Pineview. This is the only reservoir that I have been on that does not have a speed limit. Next, get after these swimmers that dive or swim from boat launch docks despite the signage that warns them not to.

  8. That would be fine, but doubt it would have helped in this case.  Its a circus there on the weekend....a few less watercraft would work for me....even though they already do that I think its still too many.
